Can’t Catch Tommorrow Live at Brixton

(I’m pretty sure you can hear Ms Shikari and myself singing along 🙂 )

LIVE REVIEW: LOSTPROPHETS

Who: Lostprophets

Where: 02 Academy, Brixton

When: Thursday 11th February 2010

Support: Hexes & Kids In Glass Houses

Lostprophets brought their mighty ‘Betrayed’ tour to London last thursday. We were lucky enough to be there and my-oh-my what a fucking night.

The day started unusually early for Ms Shikari and myself. By 5pm we had finished a couple of cans of Strongbow and cracked open a bottle of whiskey,(as is our gig ritual)  each took half in a bottle and jumped on the train to Brixton.

By the time we got to the academy, it’s fair to say we were completely plastered. Like, wasted. Headed straight in (guestlist naturally,) and to the bar. After I’d demanded the cute check in guy put my wristband on for me – much to his amusement – we headed to the bar. Umm a few times….

Support on the night came from ‘Hexes’ and ‘Kids In Glass Houses’.

Now this is where I fess up and admit..I actually can’t remember much at all. I’m assured from reviews that Hexes were great. Having seen KIGH before I know they are always quality. ALED, SHAY, BOYS YOU KNOW I LOVE YOU!

Here is the new single

An interval, then Lostprophets came out. Now this, I remember every second of.

This is the third time I’ve seen the boys now and I have to say, the best. The songs from new album The Betrayed sit perfectly along side older stuff and it was a fantastic mix.
It was awesome to hear ‘We are Godzilla….’ especially for us, umm, slightly older fans… 🙂

It’s hard to chose any particular highlights as the whole set was off the scale. It’s at times like this, seeing your favourite band perform so amazingly that really makes you feel alive. Anyone who says they weren’t elated at the euphoric ‘Last Train Home’, ‘Rooftops’ my personal favourite ‘Can’t Catch Tomorrow’  and anthemic new hit ‘Darkest Blue’ …well, you’d have to be dead really.

The Mosh-along factor of ‘Burn Burn’, and of course the immense ‘Shinobi vs Dragon Ninja’ hasn’t lessened in the slightest. This, my friends, this is what music was made for.

Of course the boys engaged in their usual banter and the crowd were great. The encore of next single ‘The light that shines as twice as bright’ was a spine-tingling harbinger that there is so much more to come from them.

Long live Lostprophets. A-fucking-men.

MS SHIKARI’S GUIDE TO GIGWEAR

WITH A NUMBER OF GIGS COMING UP IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS I FIGURED NOW WAS A GOOD TIME TO GIVE YOU ALL MY GUIDE TO WHAT YOU SHOULD WEAR WHEN SEEING A BAND.

THIS GUIDE APPLIES TO BOTH MEN AND WOMEN, AND THE RULES ARE EXACTLY THE SAME.

THE RULES:

DO

  • WEAR CLOTHES THAT FIT, DON’T BE WEARING JEANS THREE SIZES TOO BIG, THEY WILL ONLY END UP ROUND YOU ANKLES. TRUST ME IT’S NOT FUN HAVING TO HOLD THEM UP AS YOU MOSH.
  • WEAR STUFF THATS COMFY, NO NEED TO SQUEEZE YOURSELF INTO CLOTHES THAT ARE TOO SMALL OR TIGHT YOU WILL ONLY REGRET IT WHEN YOU GET ALL SWEATY AND THINGS START GETTING VERY UNCOMFORTABLE.

DON’T

  • WEAR A NEON TUTU NO MATTER HOW ‘COOL’ YOU THINK YOU LOOK. YOU DON’T, YOU LOOK LIKE A TWAT.
  • TRY TOO HARD AND WEAR EVERYTHING YOU’VE SEEN THE ‘CELEBS’ WEAR, IT’S TOO MUCH. YOUR GOING TO SEE A BAND NOT WALKING THE RED CARPET.
  • BE A WANNABE DRAWING I HEART WHOEVER ON YOUR FOREHEAD IN EYELINER, IT’S A LITTLE BIT PATHETIC TO BE HONEST. THEY ARE NEVER GONNNA SHAG YOU SO GET OVER IT AND MOVE ON.
  • EVEN THINK ABOUT WEARING HEELS GIRLS, FLATS OR TRAINERS/BOOTS ARE THE THING TO WEAR.   MOSHING IS BEST DONE WHEN YOU CAN FEEL YOUR FEET 🙂

Now that ground rules have been set here are what i recommend for a good gig.

    Song: Burn Burn

    Album: Start Something

Where do I begin, with this life we’re living in
Market youth their uniform, make us all fit in
But do you think, that we’re that blind?
That we can’t see through all your lies

    [chorus:]
    Cause it’s no good
    Burn burn the stations
    We’ll burn it down
    Burn burn the truth
    Enjoy the flames
    In celebration
    Enjoy the sound
For us, for them, for you

I know that I’ve been told
    My intergrity was sold
Priced and placed upon the shelf
It’s worth it’s weight in gold
But do you think we’ve lost our minds?
Yeah we can see through all your lies

    [chorus]

Burn burn the truth the lies the news
Burn burn the life that you cant choose
Burn burn the hate that gets you through
Burn burn for us, for them, for you [x8]

    Cause it’s no good
    Burn burn the stations
    We’ll burn it down
    Burn burn the truth
    Enjoy the flames
    In celebration

For us, for them, for you [x5]
